Painting project to be carried out with the participants of the Apotheke painting studio in 2015

About the project

Objectives:

1 - provide each participant of the Apotheke Painting Studio Study Group with the opportunity to develop a plastic project (individual).

2 - understand through a painting project, directions such as: theme, form, composition, color study.

3 - exercise ways of seeing and perceiving and create a plastic unity.

Argument

Window as a device for looking. The gaze that passes through the window can perceive landscapes, still lifes, abstract shapes, brushstrokes with light and shadow, as in a watercolor. What makes a project poetic? Artistic creation can be derived from something banal, seemingly simplified, however, the artist establishes his work, a time/space that permeates representation, and achieves disparate modes of presentation. Contemporary times require more than contemplation; they demand questions, concerns and exercises in production. When the window is closed and the light is exhausted, darkness and cold tones set the scene for the abstract landscape, in a composition that is permeated by shadow (which is not real) but rather guided by the light projected into the eye. Opening or closing a window, whatever it may be, is a daily exercise and procedure. The window, half open, leaves room for the crack, the frieze, the middle, the other side, what is outside and inside at the same time. In this way, I propose a plastic project to the participants of the Apotheke Painting Studio, the project: Across the window. Crossing the window, looking at the other side, between opening, closing, are contemporary arguments that encompass this proposition.

Methodology

- Read the texts and research artists for references.

- Choose a window, or set of windows and photograph at different times, or at the same time (create work systems). Video and/or photography = record = study.

- Construct a pictorial process using the window as an axis, through painting, drawing or monotype. Think of a series of works. Collages, encaustic, monotype, cyanotype, anthotype and/or techniques developed at the Apotheke.

- Build a plastic project using the theme.

- Period: March to July 2015.

- In July, all participants (who accept the proposal) will present their projects and individual guidance at construction clinics, and conversations can be scheduled in advance.

- The creation process and procedures must be shared on the Apotheke Painting Studio's open page throughout the project.
